Sally Pointer & Gareth Riseborough

Sally Pointer was born in 1972 and has a Joint Honours degree in Archaeology and Medieval English. She has spent most of her working life in the heritage industry, most recently spending over ten years with the National Museum of Wales before going freelance in 2010. She is an experienced presenter, educator, and lecturer who is equally at home in a formal academic setting or in costume, in a field, surrounded by experimental reconstructions and enthusiastic young helpers.

She has a wide range of research interests, including the history and archaeology of soap, perfumes and cosmetics; historic textiles and knitting; costumery; natural dyes, herb use and mythology.

Sally has written a number of books including:
The Artifice of Beauty, a history and practical guide to perfumes and cosmetics (Sutton Publishing 2005)
Making Medieval Underwear, a practical guide
The Mythology of Herbs

She is currently writing new books about Soap through the ages, and also about Pomanders and their contents. She is also working on her portfolio of modern knitting designs and is trying to get her garden organised.

Gareth Riseborough was born in 1964 and trained as a chef before deciding that life was more fun if you spent most of it working in a different century. He divides his time between working for a reconstructed fourteenth century medieval village and his impressive range of craft skills. He is an experienced multi-period re-enactor and regularly appears as a supporting artist in film and television.

He specialises in small items inspired by history, archaeology and mythology, and is particuarly well known for his boxwood pots, fine bonework and unusual jewellery.

Gareth has written three books to date based on his work as a medieval baker:
The Recipe Book of Gareth-the-Baker
And We Must Eat of the Yellow Wobbly Bits
Sweetmeats and Dainty Morsels

He is working on new books to continue the series.

Together we live in Mountain Ash (about 20 miles north of Cardiff in South Wales) where we share life with a rather strange cat, a housefull of craft supplies and projects in progress, and an ever increasing collection of books and 'things that may come in useful someday'. You can find items made by Sally and by Gareth in our online shop, and we are always happy to discuss new commissions, appearances or workshops.

We pride ourselves on being nice people to work with, we work hard to ensure we give good value and excellent service, and strive to be versatile, professional and informed in all the areas we work in.
